Starting the New Year Strong!

We are hours away from closing out 2016 and turning the page to 2017.  As I have spent time contemplating, praying, and studying the scriptures and asking God to give me vision and direction both personally and for our church in 2017, I keep coming back to the phrase, “All In”.

As we read the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John), Jesus never invites us to be Christians, rather he invites us into a relationship that is marked by following Him.

Jesus never says, “Come, be a Christian”.  Multiple times, in multiple settings Jesus gives the same invitation that he gives to you and me;

“Come, and follow me.”

The term Christian is ok, but I prefer Christ Follower.  Lot’s of people claim to be Christians, not many people use the phrase Christ Follower, (or Disciple for that matter).

My hope and prayer for us as a church family is that 2017 will be marked by an “all in” mindset and attitude as we follow Jesus together.  As we enter 2017, lets go all in. Let’s hold nothing back, but together lets worship Jesus with all our hearts, mind, strength (Luke 10:27).

With that in mind, I would like to personally invite you to join me in the following two activities in the New Year:

One Year Bible Reading Plan: On January 1st, I am going to begin a One Year Bible Reading Plan.  A friend of mine posted a link on facebook to a free, 5-day a week reading plan that covers the Bible in one Year.  Not only is the price right (free), the thing I really like about the 5 Day A Week Plan is it allows for 2 make up days if you fall behind.  You can find out more about the 5 Day A Week Readying Plan (Here), or you can directly download it (Here).

21 Day Breakthrough Fast: I am inviting our entire church to consider joining me on a 21 Day Fast beginning on Monday, January 9th. Fasting is a Biblical, spiritual discipline that helps us focus our attention on Jesus, while spending focused time in prayer and in the study of God’s word, while aligning ourselves with the mission and purposes of our Heavenly Father. Our friends at Converge MidAmerica have provided us with a great resource that you can download here. If you are interested in participating the 21 Day Breakthrough Fast, please let me know and I will also have some hard copies available on Sunday morning at Redemption Church.

Let’s go all in!  Let’s start the new year strong, and follow hard after Jesus.
