Loving God, Loving People, Building Families

On Sunday we celebrated Redemption Church turning two years old.  Each anniversary of our public launch is a reminder of God calling us to plant a new church and His faithfulness to that calling.  Call me sentimental, but it was also a time for me to reflect on where we have been as a young, start from scratch church, and to also think about where we are going.

One of the things I absolutely love about Redemption Church is that we are a church family, of families.

As a Dad of two boys, raising children is probably one of the greatest and most difficult adventures my wife and I have ever faced.  One of the things that gives me incredible comfort is that I am not alone in my parenting journey.  I am surrounded by people who are praying for us, my sons have countless examples of Godly men and women in their lives, and there are other parents in my life that I can laugh with, share frustrations with, glean wisdom from, and share my greatest fears with.  That is the beauty of community.

On Sunday we had the privilege of having our of very first Child Dedication during our worship gathering.  While we call it Child Dedication, Parent Dedication is probably a better term.  A Child Dedication is where parents stand before the church and publicly declare their love and belief in Jesus, while at the same time declaring their desire to raise their child in the way, love, and instruction of the Lord.  It is also a time where the church family, can publicly declare they will love, encourage, walk alongside, and care for that family.

One of the things I am absolutely convinced of, is that fact that you and I were never meant to do life alone.  The reality is we are all better when we live our lives in the context of community.

One of the best pieces of parenting advice I have ever received, and also tell other people is; do not do it alone.

One of the things I love about Redemption Church, is we are a church that loves families.  No one gets upset if there is a baby making noise in the worship gathering.  People smile when children dance during music. We have faithful volunteers who weekly serve in Children’s Ministry to provide a safe and fun environment where children can learn about Jesus, and grow in their walk with him.

While Redemption Church is a young, scrappy, start up church, I absolutely love that we are a church family, that loves families!  Happy Second Birthday Redemption Church!  The Best is Yet To Come!
